Demonstrated
Observed, built, measured, or repeatedly tested for the claim being made. Real-world constraints and limitations still matter.
POSSIBILITY • EVIDENCE • THE FUTURE
What might humanity build next—and which parts are science, experimental technology, theoretical engineering, or informed speculation? Explore ambitious ideas without confusing the possible with the proven.
HOW MKP LABELS CLAIMS
These categories describe the specific claim under discussion, not an entire field. An idea can contain demonstrated components while its overall proposal remains speculative.
Observed, built, measured, or repeatedly tested for the claim being made. Real-world constraints and limitations still matter.
Being investigated or tested, but its wider application, performance, or feasibility is not yet established.
Supported by mathematical models or established physical principles, without a full-scale demonstrated implementation.
A possible scenario or thought experiment that depends on major unanswered engineering, scientific, economic, or social questions.
START EXPLORING
Status: theoretical / speculative. Rotational artificial gravity follows established mechanics, but large self-sustaining orbital cities and Dyson-swarm-scale infrastructure have not been built. What would the mass, energy, shielding and maintenance budgets look like?
Explore MKP's settlement framework →Status: speculative. Changing a planet's global climate or atmosphere would involve enormous resources and uncertain biological and ecological consequences. Compare possible approaches with nearer-term, enclosed habitats.
Explore Project ALCHEMY →Status: theoretical / speculative. Known physics can frame travel-time and propulsion limits, but multigenerational spacecraft demand unresolved solutions for closed-loop ecology, reliability, governance, and health.
Start with life-support evidence →Status: demonstrated physics; experimental power engineering. Fusion reactions and ignition experiments are real, but economical, reliable fusion electricity at grid scale remains a development challenge. Avoid treating breakthroughs as operating commercial plants.
Read MKP's fusion overview →Status: actively researched with speculative future scenarios. Contemporary AI capabilities are measurable, while predictions about future systems, timelines, social change and existential outcomes are uncertain and contested.
Explore MKP's AI section →Status: scientific search plus speculation. Astronomical observations and planetary chemistry inform the search for life; no confirmed extraterrestrial civilization has been established. Ask what evidence would change our conclusions.
Explore ocean-world science →Isaac Arthur's independently produced videos offer accessible explorations of space habitats, interstellar travel, future civilizations and other thought experiments. They are his original works, not MKP productions, and a linked video is not evidence by itself that every scenario is practical. Questions for readers: Which proposed technology has the strongest supporting evidence? Which unknown is the biggest obstacle? What experiment or calculation could test the idea? What unintended consequences should be investigated?
